Description of Mission Work: |
New Orleans at this point was still gutting houses and doing cleanup. Our team did almost all physical labor. In a small percentage of assignments students will interact with homeowners and work alongside them and ministering to them in their long road to recovery. |

Suggested “Pre-Reqs” for this trip: |

Suggested time period for preparation and team building for this trip: |
Team building seems to help students communicate and work harder together, and for this trip even just 4 weeks of team building is extremely helpful. |

Student’s response to the mission’s experience: |
Our students were each very expressive about how much greater the hurricane devastation than what they had imagined. They gleaned a great deal from seeing social and economic structures of a city like New Orleans. Their faith was most impacted by seeing the physical results that people from the Christian community have given to New Orleans residents. |

Preparation, guidance, hospitality, and interaction of your hosts/host agency: |
UMCOR provided about one hour of training for our students in dealing with debris and cleanup. Their interaction was then limited to giving us work assignments and obtaining reports on work progress. |
