Description of Mission Work:

The Abraham Project is a childrens home/community center/church. They have several different ministries there from operating a day care center (very rare in Costa Rica, but ministers to many single mothers and others withouth families nearby), to teaching English. The main work that we did was construction on the 3rd Children’s home in their complex. We also helped with a feeding ministry in downtown San Jose.

Suggested “Pre-Reqs” for this trip:

None. It is a great “first time” trip. It would be best if there are at least a couple of people who have some Spanish. We did a good bit of construction, but they have something for any competency level.

Suggested time period for preparation and team building for this trip:

3-4 months. The Abraham Project itself has a requirement of at least 3 meetings for getting prepared for the trip (it’s on their website), but I would encourage some teambuilding and getting to know each other before the trip, in addition to the spiritual preparation.

Student’s response to the mission’s experience:

The students were challenged, encouraged, and motivated to be faithful Christians who have the kind of bold faith that we saw in Costa Rica! I can say that without exception, each person who went on the trip came away impacted.

Preparation, guidance, hospitality, and interaction of your hosts/host agency:

Our host agency was great, especially once we got there. They’re very busy and communication is sometime unreliable, but be persistent if you’re having troubles. Don’t be afraid to call them, as email is often unreliable.
