Day Forty (September 25th)
September 25th, 2009Almighty, good, and gracious God, we come before you asking for the heart of a disciple.
God, regardless of whether we are a teacher or a student, may we always position ourselves as students of Jesus. As we learn head knowledge and develop skills, may our hearts and minds also be shaped into your likeness. Morning by morning, make our ears alert to listen like a disciple.
Jesus, you have said that if we hold to your teachings, then we will really be your disciples. Lord, may we hold your teachings! We have the model of your life, Jesus, through scripture, but you also tell us that we can have your mind. Transform our minds. Renew our spirits. Give us the courage to stand up for your way of life, which is abundant, but is also cross- cultural. Remind us that our citizenship lies in heaven and that we are living out your Kingdom right now! In doing so, may your Kingdom be realized on earth.
Holy Spirit, when we are tempted to follow another teacher, give us eyes to see your teachings and empower us to live them out. Sustain us, embolden us, and correct us so that we might really be your disciples.
As we end our season of prayer specifically for campus ministry in the United Methodist Church, may we be aware of how we might live out our own discipleship more keenly. May we have the clarity to hear, God, what you are speaking to us. And may we have the courage to follow in obedience. May our institutions of learning be forming the hearts and minds of their students and may the campus ministers follow the footsteps of the teacher, Jesus. It is in his name that we pray, Amen. May it be so.
