Day Thirty-Nine (September 24th)

September 24th, 2009

“Spirit of the Living God, fall fresh on us…”

God of Life, Light, Justice and Peace,

We pray for your guidance each day as we desire to see you more clearly, love you more dearly and follow you more nearly. Whether we are students or campus ministers, we acknowledge that we are called to be your presence among our colleagues and our peers. We see so many people created by you and loved by you, yet they barely know who you are. Many think they know what it means to be “Christian,” yet their impressions are shaped by media images and massive egos. The message is often so distorted that Jesus cannot be recognized in what is said and done. Make us and mold us into faithful disciples with a compelling Word that extends beyond our lips to the example of our lives.

Remind us that Jesus not only calls us to follow him, but also to see him in the “least of these.” Let us physically meet the needs of those who hunger, thirst, or are naked or imprisoned. Help us to also recognize those who hunger for meaning, thirst for love, are stripped bare of self-respect or are held captive by emotional crises. Make us be for them your instruments of grace and radical hospitality.

And dear God, keep us mindful that we ourselves are always still being shaped and formed by you. We serve not because we have all the answers, but because you are the answer. We pray this in the name of the one whom we seek to embody and who empowers us to live and share life abundantly-Jesus the Christ.

Amen.
