Day Thirty-Five (September 20th)
September 20th, 2009A prayer inspired by 2 Timothy 1:5-9
God of all generations,
You are remembered in every time by people of faith,
And you cause them to remember and bear witness-
in families,
in communities, and
in congregations-
with those who will come after.
Blow with the mighty wind of your Spirit
upon the embers within us, within your Church now;
fan the flames that are your good gifts, and
call the elders of your church around the young ones,
have them lay their hands upon them again
through campus ministries and United Methodist congregations.
May the great gifts drive out all fear and timidity-
power from our Almighty creator;
love carried to us and shared through us by Christ Jesus, redeemer;
self-discipline inspired and empowered by the sanctifying Spirit-
for they all reveal your great glory.
May our shame and intimidation trickle away from us
as we serve and sacrifice and even suffer for the gospel,
for we then will rely solely on you, O God,
who has saved us, and made us holy, and called us with purpose and grace,
and not just us, but your children in every time and place.
Through Jesus Christ, whom we remember and are remembered by. Amen.
