Mission that Transforms
March 1st, 2006Welcome to the CollegeUnion missions page. Capitalizing on our common ministry to serve the college campus, we endeavor to share ideas on how we are practicing mission on our respective campuses.Quarterly this section will strive to help campus ministers and chaplains in at least three ways:
Articles
We will post articles from practitioners, missionaries, scholars and people passionate about involving college students in sharing the Gospel in word and deed. This quarter includes “Strategic Missions on the College Campus” and “The World at Our Door in 2005″, which addresses great opportunities to reach out to international students.
Missions In Action
We will also share details of where groups are sending teams, and creative ways college ministries are sharing Christ in their communities. In order to share the greatest of mission experiences, please send us visuals. If you have pictures (6-8) or a two minute video clip, we will work to share these through this website. (Send any visuals along with a description of: i) your group, ii) where you went, iii) why you went, and iv) a summary of the team experience. If you already have a trip planned and would like other ministries to be aware of where your team(s) is/are going, please send that information so we can post it. Email pictures, video, or other information to gregh@ttuwesley.org
Weblinks
Finally, you can find links here to a broader collection of mission’s material available on the web to assist in your teaching, planning, training, and going out in the name of Christ.
We are working to accumulate these resources because mission at its very best creates intense discipleship, or discipleship that transforms. The more we discuss the scope of missions, the more clear we see both global and local components. If the global scope of mission is neglected, our mission practice is myopic. If the local practice of mission is neglected, then our practice of missions could be too showy.
In raising up a new generation of Christian leaders, our prayer is for them to discover more about Christ’s kingdom as they are challenged on their faith journey. Stepping out of the “comfort zone” of their dorm room, the class room, sometimes overprotective families, and their circle of friends, students discover pieces of God’s heart for the world which they never knew before.
God’s heart to reconcile all people to Himself unfolds through both the action and the words of our students. “For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. This is the wonderful message he has given us to tell others. We are Christ’s ambassadors, and God is using us to speak to you. We urge you, as though Christ himself were here pleading with you, “Be reconciled to God!” (II Corinthians 5.17) What a rush to see students become ambassadors, to watch them transforming, and to see the world reconciled to God through Christ!
Please give us your comments and suggestions as we strive to provide material on missions that is applicable in your context of ministry. (Email gregh@ttuwesley.org )
